Self service questions and answers
What can I do at the self-service machines?
- You can issue and return your books and get a receipt.
- You can pay any charges on your library card.
- You can check your record to see what books you have on loan, what requests are in the system for you and whether they are ready for collection, and if you have any outstanding fines.
- You can renew your books with a simple touch-screen facility – you don't have to have the books with you.
Does this mean that service will be reduced in the Library?
- Not at all.
- Staff will be on hand to help you with the self-service machines.
- The Enquiry Desk will still be open throughout advertised service hours – and we will be able to spend more time helping you with in-depth enquiries.
- Staff will be "roving" throughout the building, to help you with your enquiries on-the-spot.
Facilities in the library will in fact be available for longer hours than before
For example, we will be able to open the Short Loan Collection for longer – up to 15 minutes before the building closes – and on Sundays. You will also be able to self-collect your reservations throughout this time.
Where can I collect my requests?
These will be available on the requests shelf in the Short Loan room up to 15 minutes before the building closes. They are shelved by the first initial of your family name and the last three digits of your library card.
