My e-Shelf
My e-Shelf can be used to build up a bibliography of records, which are saved in named folders, and which can be viewed any time you log on to the Catalogue.
Note: To add items permanently to your e-Shelf you must be logged on to the Catalogue.
How to use My e-Shelf:
- Carry out a search in the normal way. Once you have some results you may add items to the e-Shelf from either the Brief List of records or from the Full View of a record;
- From the Brief List of records: Select the item you wish to add by clicking in the check box, then click on Add to My e-Shelf; the next screen will prompt you to add a Note to the record(s) you have chosen — this is optional. On clicking on the Go button you should then get a confirmatory message saying that the record was successfully added to the e-Shelf;
- From the Full View of a record: Click on Add to My e-Shelf; the next screen will prompt you to add a Note to the record(s) you have chosen — this is optional. On clicking on the Go button you should then get a confirmatory message saying that the record was successfully added to the e-Shelf;
- When you have selected all the records you require then you can click on the My e-Shelf link on the main navigation bar at the top of the browser screen. This will display the items you selected in the default folder called Basket. This list will be stored permanently if you are logged on or will be deleted once the session ends if you are not logged on;
- You may create different folders in order to store records that relate to different subjects or authors for example. To do this click on Folder Management, and on the next screen you will see the items you have added to the Basket folder displayed on the right of the browser screen. You may create a new folder in either of two ways: by clicking on the New link on the left of the browser screen, or by clicking on Save Basket As on the right of the browser screen. Remember to give the folder a name before clicking the link;
- Once you have created a folder and have some records in it you may move records, either singly
or in groups, from your folder back to the default Basket, and vice-versa using the arrow buttons
; - Records in folders may be deleted, either singly or in groups. You may also re-name a folder. Use Folder Management to maintain your folders, and use the My e-Shelf link to view the contents of folders, as this is where you will see the fullest information about each record, including the Call No. (Classmark).
My e-Shelf is not a fully featured bibliographic manager — for more functionality we recommend that students use EndNote software (available on campus networked PCs).
